FAQ - Employed by Lapland Staff

We start the big recruitment for all winter season 2024-2025 jobs in August!

You can apply by leaving an application to the positions that interest you on our Job openings page. Please fill in the application carefully and in English to enhance your possibilities in the process.

Please note we do not accept applications by email.

If you impress us with your application, the next step will be a video interview. You can prepare yourself to it by finding out about our positions and destinations that interest you.

If the interview goes well, we will suggest you to a destination and they will do the decision on if they want to hire you or not. If they want you, you will receive a job offer via email. After you have accepted the job offer, we will send you a contract via email and you can sign it electronically.

We fill the positions as soon as we find the right candidates, so apply soon. The application period will close around mid-October.

If you apply with a friend or a partner, please mention this in both of your applications.

Unfortunately at the moment we do not offer internship positions.

I’m an EU-citizen, do I need work permit in order to work in Finland? 

If you are a citizen of an EU Member State, a Nordic country, Liechtenstein or Switzerland, you do not need a residence permit to stay or work in Finland. 

You must apply for EU registration if you plan to reside in Finland for a longer period than three months without interruption. As an EU citizen, you have an unrestricted right to work in Finland even if you have not yet received a decision on your registration application. 

I’m NOT an EU-citizen, do I need work permit in order to work in Finland? 

To work in Finland, you probably need a work permit. It’s employees responsibility to apply it and take care of the process. The price will be depending on the lenght of your stay. More information about the process and prices from here: The Finnish Immigration Service Migri.  If you need a visa to work in Finland, you apply it from The Ministry of Forreign Affairs of Finland.

The process can vary different years, so always check the latest information from Migri/Finnish embassy.  

Employee will do the applying personally and we support and help as employers with the paperwork, after you have signed the contract with us. During the application process, we advice to read information from the Finnish Immigration Services/the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pages, so you will have already knowledge how you start the process. 

The Finnish Immigration Services (or Finnish embassy/consulate) processing times can affect to the fact if we can hire you or not. The permit/visa has to be approved before you come to Finland and start your work. 

 Christmas season (less than 90 days) 

If you come from visa free country (the UK for example), you need to apply Certificate for seasonal work. 

If you come to Finland from outside the EU for less than 90 days and you need visa, you must check the need of permit or work visa from your home country authorities. 

Full season (more than 90 days) 

If you come from visa free country (the UK for example), you need to apply Residence permit for seasonal work. 

If you come to Finland from outside the EU for more than 90 days, you must check the need of permit or work visa from your home country authorities. 

Finnish employers collect percent based tax from all income. You can apply tax card before you enter Finland but you need to visit Tax office in person. You can apply Progressive taxation or Tax-at-source taxation. Besides tax, we will also withhold payments of social insurance contributions from your salary (approximately 9% all payments combined).

It is not mandatory. However, it would be the fastest and most convenient way of receiving your payment. Your own bank account will be fine, when it includes IBAN formed number with BIC CODE and it receives EURO payments. Please notice that each transaction will take its time. Also your own bank can withhold payments for the transaction.

The contract of employment is a fixed-term employment contract, with hour-based payment, in accordance with the collective agreement of Adventure Services Sector and possible local agreements. The salary will be defined according to those agreements. Your previous work experience and education will all affect on your wage.

Your work contract is in accordance both with the collective agreement of Adventure Services Sector and possible local agreements. These agreements define the terms and conditions of your employment. You are paid by the done and accepted hours.  Sunday hours and Finnish public holidays are paid in double. You are legally entitled to have one free day per week.

You are insured by your employer against all occupational accidents. (Occupational Safety and Health Administration - Tyosuojelu.fi)

The insurance does not cover time off, however, so it is good to get an additional travel insurance. Also, for Europeans, it’s a good idea to get the European Health Insurance Card. 

In cases of illness you can have sick leave thru Call to the nurse -service offered by us. You are responsible to cover the costs, if you need to visit a doctor.

You are entitled to paid sick leave according to collective agreement after you have been working for a month.

In several of our destinations we help you to find accommodation on a shared room basis with  affordable rent.

The availability and location of the accommodation depend of the destination.

The accommodation is only for our employees. Unfortunately we do not have family apartments.

If you apply with a friend or a partner, it is most likely we can accommodate you in the same place. Please mention if you have someone you are applying with.

Travel expenses to and from Finland are not covered by the employer. This is also valid for travelling to the work location within the country. Your work location will provide you with detailed information on getting to the destination if you have been hired.
