safari guide

Multitalent in the Northern nature

What it's like?

As a Safari Guide you will introduce Lappish nature to international guests and guide different activities. Among many things you can for example guide a snowshoe safari on top of a fell, take customers to visit a reindeer farm or lead a snowmobile safari to a snowy forest to see Aurora Borealis. Your tools in different safaris can be snowmobiles, ice-fishing gear or fatbikes and of course your awesome personality! The working days consist of various tasks such as preparation and operating safaris as well as maintenance work.

What to expect?

A guide is a social people person who wants to deliver exceptional experiences to her/his customers every time. A great guide is confident with him/herself but knows his/her limitations, too. A guide can keep her/his cool in freezing temperatures and tricky situations with customers. The ability to improvise a new solution while keeping customers happy and oblivious of and occurred problem is a real talent that a great guide possesses. Common sense is a must and wilderness skills are bonus. Leadership skills are essential. Other requirements are a driving licence (B), language (minimum English, other languages are advantage) and communication skills, interest in outdoor activities, first aid and last but not least ability to handle stress. All the guides have their own style but being professional in every situation is required.

How does it work?

Before the actual work starts every new Lapland Safari guide will receive a guide training. In the training you will learn among other things, how to handle a snowmobile, how to make a fire and how to guide a safari. You will learn customer service and performance skills as well as first aid skills. You will learn local knowledge and visit the most used venues and subcontractors. How to handle cold is a crucial part of the training. Training language is English and the training period is unpaid.

Most of the safari guides are working the whole winter season from November to March or even early April. Working with Lapland Safaris you will receive unforgettable experiences, get great friends and experience an intensive season above the Arctic circle.
